WebJun 12, 2012 · I have found synthetic oil to be a bit more noisy in the valvetrain area but not bad enough to switch back to dino. I would not use a motor oil syn or dino in the primary or tranny. I use Redline designed for primary, tranny and crankcase specific. Three different oils in three different holes. It almost sounds like high tension lines, out an old car radio with spark plug interference. This motor did not exhibit the noises that I am complaining about when I bought it last year. HD's whole marketing ploy was how much quieter the M8 was and it was true when I bought the bike.

WebJul 26, 2024 · The shaft that slides thru the rocker arms is stabilized at the end by a flat that allows the bolt to slide past, but keeps the shaft from moving in an arc. After years and miles, wear occurs that allows the flats to rotate back and forth a little, causing a lot of noise. Its been my experience that it seems worse on some RK models because of the windshield. It buffers wind noise and allows it to be heard where normally you wouldn't. Take the windshield off and ride and you'll see a difference. Compared to the twin cam , the M8 is quiet. Maybe go to the dealer and ride a demo to see if it has the same noise.
